Dr. Khine Swe Swe-Han’s main professional Medical Microbiology interests are in the field of antimicrobial resistance multidrug resistant organisms (MDROs), surveillance of MDROs, their relevant controls and antibiotics stewardship program. Dr. Khine Swe Swe-Han started to find out the Glycopeptide intermediate resistant Staphylococcus aureus (GISA/ hGISA) at local hospital (IALCH) and the carbapenem resistant Enterobacteraecae (CRE) as well during analyzed the surveillance data. She is also interested in public health communicable diseases (Mycobacteria tuberculosis, STI), and other notifiable medical condition outbreak investigation. Dr Khine Swe Swe-Han completed her MB, BS at the age of 25 years and was working continuously as a clinical doctor for 14 years (1985-1998) before qualifying as a pathologist. She obtained the postgraduate degrees such as; FC Path, MMed (Medical Microbiology), Diploma of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (DTMH); Post Graduate Degree of Infection Prevention and Control (PDIC) from South Africa University School of Medicine. She has awarded PhD (Med Micro), UKZN in 2017. Dr. Khine Swe Swe-Han has published 24 papers, >50 oral/ poster presentations in both local and international congresses. Dr. Khine Swe Swe-Han participates as a member of an editorial board of South African Society of Clinical Microbiologists (SASCM), FIDSSA, National Antimicrobial Committee (NAC), HODs Microbiology Executive Committee (MEC), NHLS – MANCO, Working group committee of C. Diff; Syphilis Diagnosis subcommittee team, Honourable Editorial Board member, the College of Pathologists of South Africa (CMSA), IPCAN, and UKZN School Board. She is also an examiner for the College of Pathologists of South Africa (CMSA). She also appointed as Honorary Research of Fellow in the school of Health Science, University of KwaZulu Natal, Westville Campus. She has agreed to involve as a Collaborator / supervisor for The “One Health” Approach to Containing Antibiotic Resistance Research Project. Dr. Khine Swe Swe-Han has supervised, co-supervised 17 students and 9 have graduated with MMed, Masters, and BSc Hons Degrees in Microbiology, UKZN. Dr. Khine Swe Swe-Han was a chairperson of Infection control committee (IPC) for 10 years (2007-2017) and currently she participates as a major role for both IPC and chairperson of Antibiotics stewardship program (ASWP) at IALCH including national coverage, in-service training regarding clinical interface.
